Wrestle Kingdom 20 has broken every record – every seat in the Tokyo Dome for 4 January 2026 is gone. The card carries seven matches and six belts, every championship will change hands or be defended in winner-takes-all bouts, Olympic judo gold medallist Aaron Wolf wrestles for the first time and the show is already promoted as Japan’s biggest spectacle of the century. The heart of the evening is Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement ceremony after twenty six years plus 2,985 contests.
In his last singles match Tanahashi meets his greatest opponent, Kazuchika Okada, who now works for AEW. Their story began with the “Rainmaker Shock” in 2012 and has run through title fights besides G1 brackets ever since. Okada holds nine wins to Tanahashi’s five overall but in Tokyo Dome main events Tanahashi leads two victories to one. New Japan’s pride is at stake – Tanahashi wants one final Dome triumph, Okada wants to level the Dome score.
