Following Sakura Genesis, New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) has announced the full card for Windy City Riot at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena, featuring three title matches and major storylines. In the main event, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto defends against Shota Umino in his fourth title defense in two months. Goto recently avenged a past loss to Finlay at Sakura Genesis, while Umino, after defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi, vowed to lead Hontai with strength. Goto aims to elevate younger talent and showcase Japanese Strong Style to the U.S. audience.
The event also marks Hiroshi Tanahashi’s final U.S. match before his retirement in January 2026. He faces Konosuke Takeshita in a highly personal bout, reigniting a decade-old rivalry. In 2014, Tanahashi dismissed Takeshita, then a teenage prodigy in DDT, fueling Takeshita’s rise to becoming NEVER and AEW International Champion. Now, Takeshita seeks to prove he surpasses Tanahashi’s legacy in a match billed as a “Kinship” encounter but filled with hostility.
With championship stakes, generational clashes, and Tanahashi’s emotional farewell, Windy City Riot promises to be NJPW’s biggest U.S. show of the year.
