With just one week remaining before the top point scorers in each block compete to determine the winner of the 2025 Best of the Super Jr. tournament, Nagoya hosts the penultimate block matches on May 25. As the tournament nears its climax, the 20 entrants are fighting both to survive and to thrive in Sunday’s critical matchups.

One of the key storylines revolves around Master Wato, who has been on his “Way to the Grand Master” since returning from excursion in 2020. Despite winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships and the 2023 Best of the Super Jr. tournament, Wato has yet to defeat Hiromu Takahashi, losing all three of their previous encounters. Meanwhile, DOUKI used a victory over Hiromu last year to propel himself to the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, and competitors like Kosei Fujita, Francesco Akira, and Dragon Dia are looking to replicate that success after their own wins over Hiromu in this year’s tournament.

For Wato, defeating Takahashi tonight is crucial given the tournament standings. With ten points, a win would keep him in contention for the block lead, potentially making it a three-way race between himself, Kosei Fujita, and Clark Connors—or even securing the block outright depending on earlier results. Conversely, Hiromu must win to maintain the block’s competitive balance, which has been highly unpredictable thus far.

In the B Block main event, Kevin Knight (6 points) faces El Desperado (8 points). Knight previously defeated Desperado in last year’s tournament, a victory he believes validates his claim to a future IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship opportunity. A win tonight would not only keep Knight in the running for the Best of the Super Jr. finals but also strengthen his case for a title shot against Desperado.
