Wrestling Dontaku at Fukuoka Convention Center on May 4 features two championship matches, special appearances by Kyushu Pro and STARDOM wrestlers, and the emotional final NJPW match for BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito.
Callum Newman, the youngest-ever IWGP Tag Team Champion, faced a setback when partner Jeff Cobb left NJPW, forcing them to vacate their titles. However, inspired by Cobb’s boldness, Newman seized a new opportunity a shot at Hirooki Goto’s IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Goto, leading the “Goto Revolution,” has defended his title with pride but doubts Newman’s credentials due to his limited singles record.
At Wrestling Redzone, Newman and Great-O-Khan defeated Goto and YOSHI-HASHI to reclaim the vacant IWGP Tag Team titles, making Newman a two-time record-holder. Now, he aims to become the youngest IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. The match at Dontaku will determine if Newman can make history or if Goto’s reign continues. With momentum on his side, Newman has more than a puncher’s chance but Goto’s resilience may prove too much to overcome.
