At WRESTLEDREAM 2024, Kyle O’Reilly directly confronted Kazuchika Okada, requesting a shot at the Continental Championship. Okada rudely declined, leading to tensions that security had to diffuse. This altercation led to a trios match on Wednesday between The Elite and The Conglomeration, which ended in disqualification due to interference from Jon Moxley, leaving the Okada-O’Reilly issue unresolved.
Tonight, Okada and O’Reilly face off in their first-ever singles match, with the Continental Championship on the line. Though they’ve crossed paths in multi-man matches in NJPW’s NEW YEAR’S DASH!! 2016, ROH tag team action, and AEW’s ALL IN: LONDON 2024 Casino Gauntlet, this is their first one-on-one encounter. With Okada defending his title for the sixth time, the stakes are high. The match will determine if O’Reilly can end Okada’s reign or if “The Rainmaker” will prove he’s still the dominant force who has headlined the Tokyo Dome and held the IWGP Heavyweight Title seven times.
